Taking out the Anchors

Local Fishing REALTOR and Fishing Guide shares his experience with the TODAY show cast

Being able to take the 3rd hour of TODAY show news anchors out fishing was an experience I will never forget. It all started with a call from one of the producers late one afternoon that I honestly thought was a prank phone call from one of my buddies. As more serious questions were asked, I soon realized that I would be embarking on one of the most memorable charters in my 11 years of guiding.

Filming day couldn’t have gone any smoother as I was greeted by an amazing crew of producers, cameramen and a good fishing forecast. As we left the marina with Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, Dylan Dreyer, and Craig Melvin, I couldn’t wait to show them the local waterways. To my surprise the crew was not as rusty as they led me to believe. Dylan and Sheinelle were phenomenal casters, and Craig’s birthday luck landed him a fish. On the way back to the dock, Al did an excellent job driving the boat, and we even spotted some dolphins, which was the perfect way to complete the trip. A special feature in the segment was having my Dad, Fuzzy Davis, out there in a second boat carrying the camera crew. Fuzzy pioneered inshore fishing in this area 50 years ago and taught me everything I need to know about the local waters.

The Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce, as well as many other local businesses did a great job welcoming the TODAY show to showcase this beautiful Island we call home. I could see the anchors immediately relax on the water and fall under the spell of our unique coastal surroundings. Al Roker and I joked that he might even buy a second home here from me as I also sell real estate for Sea Pines Real Estate. I am forever grateful that the phone call was not a prank, and I am hoping to see the TODAY show cast back on Out of the Blue fishing charters soon!
