Bargain Box

About

The Bargain Box was established in 1965 by three ladies from First Presbyterian Church as a shopping option for the working residents of Hilton Head Island. By 1970 it was generating enough revenues to provide monetary support to local social agencies and charities, and it was incorporated as a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization. The Bargain Box has continued to grow, becoming an Island institution that has returned over $14.4 million in to the community.

The Bargain Box maintains a paid staff of four to handle store management facility maintenance and customer assistance. All Trustees are volunteers. Over 86% of the proceeds from donations goes back to the community in the form of cash grants to other Beaufort County 501c(3) charities.

We are an active part of the local business community cultivating close working relationships with area businesses who contribute their time and resources to The Bargain Box by providing professional advice and support, discounts, a conduit for donations and recycling, etc. The Bargain Box is a member of The Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce.

Shop and Save
The Bargain Box sells a broad range of gently used donated items: clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry, all types of home goods, toys, books, movies, notions, furniture, decorator items, artwork, appliances, electronics, tools, home repair items, sporting goods, holiday items… and more–all at everyday low prices! Where else can you get a golf shirt for $1.50, an artificial flower arrangement for less than $5.00, or a dozen golf balls in their own egg carton for a $3.00.

In addition we normally have a good selection of antiques, collectibles of all sorts, formal wear, and other specialty items… and we often have the unusual and unexpected–we’ve sold an airplane, RV, Rolls Royce, diamond bracelet, baby grand piano, and countless mink coats!

We also offer Bargain Box gift certificates for your favorite shopper.

Offering good quality used items to the residents of Hilton Head Island at affordable prices remains a primary objective of The Bargain Box, so our regular prices are intentionally low. To show our appreciation for our customers, we also feature weekly and daily specials, as well as special sales and promotions.
